The Campaign for UAB aimed to raise $1 billion to support the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) across multiple areas, including facilities, faculty, research and innovation, student experience, athletics, and programmatic support. As the Art Director for the campaign's newsletter, my role involved transforming it from a photo-focused tabloid into an engaging magazine format. This redesign allowed for the inclusion of more journalistic stories that showcased the progress of the campaign and its achievements.
To initiate the newsletter's revamp, I utilized collage, craft, and even Lego blocks for illustrations. Through these imaginative methods, I visually illustrated the university's journey towards reaching the $1 billion goal. As the Art Director, I was responsible for cover design, illustration, graphic design, and layout, ensuring that the magazine exuded a visually captivating aesthetic while effectively communicating the significance of the campaign. By incorporating various artistic elements and storytelling techniques, I sought to capture the readers' attention and convey the importance of their support in the success of The Campaign for UAB.
